Let's Hear it For The Red, White & Q!

Americans love a good BBQ! And as a North Carolina shed company, we at Liberty Storage Solutions have to give a shout-out to our barbeque roots. The James Beard organization confirms that North Carolina holds the title of “Barbeque Capital of the World.” Try again Memphis, Kansas City, and everywhere in Texas! North Carolina holds the title as a result of opening the first U.S. barbecue restaurant in 1919 in the town of Lexington, a mere twenty miles from the Liberty home office.

Whether you spell it barbecue, barbeque, BBQ, or bar-b-que; it all tastes delicious. But there is something extra special about the BACKYARD barbeque. It’s always been about more than the food.

Going out and firing up the grill embraces the best of the backyard lifestyle. It can be a special way to spend time with friends and family in a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a time to gather and celebrate, where adults and kids alike can engage in games like cornhole and croquet or simply relax and chat while sipping on something refreshing. The actual barbecue can be simple hot dogs and burgers or fancier steaks or kebabs. The smell of that food grilling creates an unmistakable feeling. The backyard barbeque is simply the perfect summertime event.

Cue (or Q, for this topic) the fun facts!

It's part of our lifestyles, so it’s no surprise that approximately 75% of Americans own a grill.

And, according to Wikepedia:

  • The most popular holidays for barbecuing are, in order, July 4th (71 percent), Memorial Day (57 percent), and Labor Day (55 percent).

  • The most popular foods for cooking on the grill are, in order: burgers (85 percent), steak (80 percent), hot dogs (79 percent) and chicken (73 percent).

  • May 16th and July 4th are both National Barbecue Day.

  • The most popular barbecue utensils are long-handled tongs (77 percent), followed by forks (64 percent), long handled spatulas (59 percent), and then grill cleaning brushes (63 percent).

For those weekend grilling warriors, one challenge can be space for storing all the equipment. Storing a grill or smoker under a simple cover can help protect these items, but there are other grilling essentials that may need a more protected place.

Grilling essentials can include:

  • Propane tanks

  • Charcoal bags

  • Oversized grill utensils

  • Grill pans

  • Grill mitts and mats

  • Skewers

  • A Thermometer

  • Fire extinguisher (hey, it happens to the best of us…)

Now THIS is how a great BBQ shed can be organized!

Let’s not forget about the social aspect of the backyard barbeque. It would be ideal to have storage space for:

  • Additional chairs/seating

  • Tables

  • Fans

  • Gaming equipment for fun games like horseshoes, croquet, and cornhole

Let’s not overcomplicate it! This is the perfect scenario for one of our Liberty sheds. Creating a BBQ shack is the best way to provide shelter and storage for all things barbeque and backyard fun. For those who may have additional storage needs, it is possible to utilize a larger shed. Simply add a partition and an interior door, creating a separate area for all things barbeque. In the BBQ shack, we would recommend adding a pegboard to hang all the utensils and some shelves for keeping the other items in easy reach.

It's not all about storage!

For an amazing wow factor and a fun, functional space, a few minor modifications to a shed sidewall creates a serving area, walk-up bar or counter seating space. Consider adding an electric package to a BBQ shed. Plug in your fans or mini-fridge for even more practical use.

Add a lean-to on the shed for a covered area outside.
